Most of my work focuses on political power: who has it, and what allows them to wield it? These questions motivate my research on Bolivia, El Salvador, and other Latin American countries, and on elites, social movements, and propaganda in the contemporary United States.
A famous communist once said, “The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.” I want to do both: to understand the world in order to change it – or more precisely, to help the social movements that will change it. I hope I can play a small role in aiding the growth of those movements.
